Well, that was the shortest blogging break ever lol! I'm excited to announce the launch of The Crafty Nest! It is still a work in progress but I'm too excited not to share it with you now! This move is bittersweet to me because I've grown attached to Designs by Vanessa, having blogged here for the past 2 years. I'm looking forward to my own space (no more .blogspot.com) and a website that can grow with me. Thank you to my fabulous readers (the ones that come back post after post, even when I have nothing interesting to say), you have kept me inspired and I hope that you will continue to follow along my crafty journey at my new site.

Taking a break...

Without going into any behind the scenes details, my new website launch has unfortunately been delayed. No fears, I have a new fab designer on the case and I should be up and running again really soon. But until then, I'm in need of a small blogging break. Something that started out as a stress reliever has recently turned into a major source of stress, which is not a good thing at 30 weeks pregnant. So I'm taking a step back to remember what I love so much about blogging - which for me has always been my awesome readers in blog land and having a creative space just for me. I'll be back soon but until then, keep calm and craft on!

Hey guys! Sorry this blog has been so dead, I just returned home from our fabulous co-ed baby shower. I'll have to post a few pics later but we had a great time and my parents did a fabulous job, and even incorporated a few woodland friends. Our house has officially been taken over by baby stuff, who knew that a baby needed so much stuff! I'll be posting all about my organizational tips (if I still have any left after this project) and doing an update on Project Nursery (we have artwork) in the near future on my new and improved blog (I mentioned that I'm moving as of 6/1 right?). I'll also be posting a recap of my current blog (sniff, sniff), I only have a week more with it before I say goodbye.

Project Nursery: Shelves and Signs

For the past month we've made zero progress on our nursery. Why? Because I've been obsessing over which wall shelves to purchase. I don't know how many times I brought out my trusty tape measure to show Mr. Designs by Vanessa my shelf vision. He of course always responds that he likes my idea in an attempt to (1) to put an end to my crazy shelf obsession and (2) get me to stop bugging him about shelves. Last night I dragged him into the nursery one last time and finally made a decision (maybe), I ordered these Deep Picture Ledge Shelves from West Elm and will be displaying books on them. Who would have guessed that wall shelves would be the most difficult nursery decision for me!

Now I need your help with picking out a sign that will sit on top of one of these shelves. I originally wanted the sign to be of our baby's name but because his name has a "g" in it, the tail of the "g" won't allow it to just sit on the shelf - I would have to hang in on the wall and that defeats the purpose of a shelf sign. Still following along with me and my crazy train of thought? Ok, the first option is a "home" sign. Mr. Designs by Vanessa and I call each other our "homes" and our first wedding dance song was to Feels Like Home by Chantal Kreviazuk. So the word "home" has a very special meaning to us and we hope to pass along that love and security to our baby. The second option is a "read" sign. Like I mentioned, these shelves will be used to display some of our favorite childhood books so the "read" sign would make sense. You could usually find my nose in a book when I was a child and I hope to pass this love for reading along to my child.

My First Mother's Day

I hope all of the mothers (mothers-to-be, mothers of angel babies, mothers of 4 legged friends) out there had a wonderful Mother's Day! I know there is some debate (in forums and other places) about whether or not pregnant women are in fact mothers but my definition of a mother is someone who thinks about her child before she thinks about herself. I'm grateful to have a mother who has done just that - sacrificed and thought of my needs first. For the past 27 weeks I have tried to follow my mother's example by thinking of my growing baby boy before I even get out of bed in the morning. I think about what food he needs to grow into a healthy baby before I eat and *try* to stay away from junk. I choke down a protein shake every morning just for him (trust me, there is no amount of money in the world that would make me do this just for myself). I get in my nightly walks with Mr. Designs by Vanessa even when I feel like a 90 year old lady who needs a hip replacement (another pregnancy perk). Before he was even conceived I thought of him on a daily basis and started taking prenatals, started working out and cut out caffeine to help get my body prepared for him. So yes, I very much consider myself a mother. Every time I feel him kick or I hear his heartbeat at my midwives office, I feel like a mother.

Mr. Designs by Vanessa gave me a very sweet 1st Mother's Day Card signed from our baby. I won't embarrass him by sharing what he wrote in the card but let's just say that it was tear inducing sweet. Ok, one tiny little excerpt: That tiny kick you feel today will be our baby boy saying, "Happy Mother's Day, Mommy!" and " I love you and can't wait to meet you face-to-face and cheek-to-cheek in a few short weeks from now". Isn't my hubby nauseatingly cute?! He also got me a very thoughtful keepsake box from Willow Tree featuring a mother and a son, I can't wait to put our baby's first curl in there! He definitely made my 1st Mother's Day special and I look forward to next year when our baby is out here to celebrate with us.

Slow Down

This pregnancy is going by too fast. As much as I can't wait until the arrival of our baby boy, I also want to slow down time and really take in and remember this moment in my life. I kept a journal throughout my struggles with conceiving and when I look back at my thoughts and disappointments from just a year ago, it already feels like a lifetime away. I don't want to take that time for granted because I think it taught me a lot about myself and about the strength of my marriage. As much as I complain about nausea, heartburn, leg cramps, bloody noses (pregnancy sure is glamorous), I don't want to wish those things away because they are all signs that there is a healthy baby finally growing in my belly! I'm not sure why I'm feeling so sentimental today, maybe because our nursery furniture has arrived and things are finally starting to feel "real". We're having a baby and it is finally sinking in lol!!

Project Nursery: Birch Trees

I'm considering adding large floor to ceiling birch tree vinyl decals on the accent wall where the crib will be sitting in front of. I'm hesitant because I feel like trees decals are really overdone in nurseries but I haven't seen too many of these large birch type trees done. I will most likely go with white for the color of the decals so they really pop on the darker wall (all of these decals can be color customized). It could look good but I'm not sold yet, what do you guys think?

I've been a longtime fan of Boon products, often buying their bath toys or feeding products for my expecting friends. I just love the modern look and quality of their products. Come this August, my little guy will definitely be a Boon fan, too. Boon recently sent me their Bath Goods to review and I couldn't have been more excited when I opened the package to discover a collection of brightly colored toys that could provide hours of fun for any child (or any adult for that matter)! This collection includes 15 bath appliqués, 3 balls, and 2 mini-scrubbies that make bath time a creative and playful experience. These designer toys do not absorb water, reducing mold and mildew.

You can store these funky bath toys in Boon's Frog Pod or Bug Pod, that attaches to your bathtub wall with adhesive strips that can be removed or you can also screw mount the pod to any wall. The body of the pod is detachable, providing a drainable scoop for collecting and rinsing toys, making clean up super easy. I'll admit that I'm a huge organizational nut/borderline neat freak and I absolutely love that with one easy scoop, your child's bath toys are neatly contained in one spot.

Project Nursery: Rocker & Stuffed Friends

I've been a longtime customer of Crosscreek Country Candles and I'm excited to spread the word about this fabulous little tart shop through a review/giveaway! Deana, the super sweet owner, crafts these yummy tarts and linen sprays out of her country home in Ohio. Not sure what exactly a tart or melt is? My favorite thing about tarts is that if you get bored of a scent you can store the tart once it cools and pop in a new one. Crosscreek Country Candles offers so many yummy scents and I was excited to receive a package full of different scents to review. I immediately popped in "Watermelon Smoothie" and it was the perfect spring tart, fruity and fresh but not overwhelming. The next day I tried "Fruit Loops" and it smelled exactly like a bowl of the cereal, which is why I had to blow it out before I sent Mr. Designs by Vanessa to the grocery store at 11pm! This tart should totally come with the cereal for pregnant women lol! I also tried "Love Bug", which Mr. Designs by Vanessa claimed wasn't manly enough but I loved! Some of my new favorites are "Green Apple" and "Satsuma". My absolute favorite, favorite, favorite tart in the entire universe (I'm not exaggerating, this is one yummy tart) is "Celtic Moonspice", a fragrant blend of warm spices, cinnamon, clove and nutmeg. We received our stroller this week and it's now a (hopefully) temporary fixture in the middle of our living room. I'm starting to realize that baby gear will soon be taking over our home! Idea Board: Butterfly Nursery

Alyssa recently emailed asking for my help with her nursery, she wrote:

"I really want a nursery that is classic and simple. I like light neutral colors on the walls and white furniture. As far as accents go, I’m thinking either birdies or butterflies, in a very subtle way. I also like soft yellows, greens and pinks."

While I love birdies, I feel like bird nurseries are everywhere so I decided to go the butterfly route. I'm not a fan of heavily themed rooms where everything from the bedding to the trashcan is matching so I would personally pick a bedding that doesn't have butterflies in it and add in a few subtle butterfly accents. I'm in love with this Buttefly Mobile and these Butterfly Mirrors from Pottery Barn Kids. I think this Mini Shade Chandelier in green would be perfect for the room and I would try to find a similar table lamp. I would also make a couple of these Ruffle Pillows in green and pink. I hope this inspired you Alyssa, I can't wait to see what you come up with! Thanks for giving me a break from all things boy!

Project Nursery: Paint

We're making progress!! The nursery is painted and it's exactly how I envisioned the room looking. The colors go well with the Mod Dot bedding and Mr. Designs by Vanessa is ecstatic that we won't have to re-paint lol! The paint definitely makes things feel more real, in just a few months our little guy will be enjoying this room...I can't wait!
